roof pitch

I am building a 40x48 foot metal building with 14' tall ceiling.

I'm trying to decide between two manufacturers/builders. One has a standard 4/12 pitch and the other is a 3.5/12 pitch.

Is this difference significant enough to matter?

I would think the 4/12 pitch would be preferable due to snow loads (I live in the Chicago area) but I'm no engineer.

Any input?

I would personally prefer the look of 4/12 over 3.5/12 but as to snow loads, the trusses would have to be built to handle the snow load in your area to pass code so I don't think that is a factor.

Any metal building company can make any pitch you want up to around 6/12. Seems like an odd question or you aren't talking pre-engineered metal building.

Everything I build has a 5:12 pitch, which sheds the weather well and is not too steep to walk on and still looks good. We get some snow here but never more than two feet.

decide what pitch you prefer, your engineer will do the calcs for you. The difference between the two you mentioned is nothing , really.
