Roof sheathing code at gable

[Kaizen]

Sheathing now with5/8 zip panels. I'm leaving the gable edges long one foot and will cut after. So that's five full sheets. On next row where it's offset it will leave three feet on each end so will hit ladder/end truss/and first truss. Is that ok? I vaguely remember seeing it has to stretch back to the second truss?? Or am I confused?

I cant quote a code but right or wrong I put the (std plywood) laps at the midpoint of the adjacent panels. So the laps fall 4 feet in from the previous panel edge. I also had a 1 foot end-overhang, I believe I started with a 7 foot panel, and then a 3 foot panel, then a 7 foot panel. It was full panels the rest of the way except for ripping the panels at the ridge vent. The opposite end was trimmed to whatever the last tape measurements were. I recall a very slight taper as it wasn't perfectly orthogonal.

I have 2 foot on center trusses.....and I made my overhang one foot plus crown molding. If i'm required to go back to the 2nd truss then i'll have two useless 2.5 foot pieces every other row. At 5 rows that's 100 bucks of waste on each side. Hoping i'm wrong and I can just span one bay to the first joist

Got my answer. span on 5/8 is fine as its supported so 3 foot piece nailed appropriately is good.

General rule is it must be supported by 3 framing members, each end and one somewhere in the center. Much weaker if it only supported at each side.

Ha no kidding. I try insulating when it's freezing out. Not so bad in open spaces. Nothing like a mouthful of fiberglass
