I have a new pole barn, and I am looking to get some airflowing thru it. It has soffit and a ridge vent. I am looking into gable fans, but was wondering how do you put a roof vent/fan on a pole barn? I have put attic fans on my homes, but how can you seal a vent on a roof with with ridges? Do they make something specific for pople barns?

Thanks Ed:headscrat :headscrat

I thinking of putting a coupula or two on and putting fans under them to draw air up. I hate gable vents birds are always nesting in them. I don't want to put regular roof vents on either.

Screw it down to the high ribs and use an outside closer strip with mastic under it.
There are some vents that are made for a specific style of roof panel that are flashed with the same profile as the roof and then all you need is the mastic under them...

Hey William
Thanks for the reply. What exactly is an outside closer strip? Is it something specific for metal rooves? I've looked for metal roof vents, haven't found any yet.

Thanks again

Hi Ed,

You can get a good idea of the concept at http://www.profilevent.com/index2.html . I am installing a similar product on my new garage roof. There are types that will seal the ridge completely and others that have screening to keep bugs from getting into the attic from the outside while allowing heated air to escape through the ridge. I will be sealing it and using gable vents with a fan to blow the heated air out the end.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

If I do build my garage next time around, I plan of scissor trusses and a gable exhaust fan, will be welding up an enclosure and covering with expanded metal on the outside as well an enclosure on the inside with bug screen to keep bugs or anything bigger out.

hog1340,

Thought you might be interested in seeing what foam ridge closures look like. This is one of the three dormers of my new garage, but the idea is the same as the main ridge cap closures. There are also universal foam closures that are used at the edges of the valley metal.

I like the wind powered turbins. They move a lot of air and do not require any power. Even a 6 inch dia one with a 10 inch square base will make a big differance. The stub that ataches to the roof can be bought to match most of the common panel styles, from corregated to flat.

Thanks kbs for the reply. I have checked a number of websites, and there doesn't seem to be anywhere that states for corrigated roofing?
