Im getting ready to put a new roof on. probably going to be steel. i currently have turbine vents. is there a better way to vent a roof. not a fan of the noise these make, but want the best performance. which is the best way for adequate venting.

I think ridge venting is the best when it comes to passive venting.

I like turbine vents.
But there are good one and bad ones.
The good ones have good bearings and are quiet.
But they cost more.

Make sure you mount them well.
Read the instructions well.
You don't want that roof to start drumming.

I typically observe this condition in structures with an unbalanced ventilation system. It's likely not the vent, but the intake or lack their of. Most installers or builders just install a vented soffit in what ever size overhang. The overhang is driven by aesthetics and not the performance of the ventilation system. I also observe my fair share of ridge vents that do not have adequate clearance at the sheeting for proper functionality. Ridge vents are often undersized for the attic spaces their are expected to ventilate and a gable vent should have been specified in lieu of ridge vent. I have recently acquired a cabin in the snow belt with a cathedral ceiling and poor ventilation by design. I'm a roofing contractor so remediation is not beyond my abilities, however sometimes poor designs are difficult to correct.

I wondered why my bare frame was rusting so bad and then I realized snow was blowing in the ridge vent (new building-metal roof). It was just fine and barely visible but...

And this is in Southern Maryland down in a valley protected by trees from wind.

i think i decided to keep the turbines. every one has said they seem to be the best way to go.
