Does the sketch provide the proper information to a roofer as far as the measurements to provide a quote?

Should be enough info if you also tell them if it's a one story or a two story. But they might also want to see in person the layout of the house, parking, etc. to be able to easily get their trucks in and out.

How big's the pump house? Doesn't say, so I guess it's not enough for a bid. Is that for like a well pump?

Guessing 10, as he has a width of 10 listed above it, the house is listed below the house picture I think?

The well pump house is a 8x8 structure

I also sent them photos of the cabin (side, front and back) and the pump house along with a full description of what is existing because the property is in the mountains and even though they service the entire county with free estimates they made a comment about the fuel cost and time.

I wanted a ballpark price based on the information that I had provided to them

Around here, all the roofers use a app called "Pictometry" for preparing estimates.

Pictometry is an outfit which flies over "most of" the U.S. taking a series of pictures. The fly in tightly constructed paths, and take a series of 5 pictures of each location. Back in there offices, they stitch the photos together and sell access to the results. They are accurate enough that measurements of things like roof dimensions and the height of building side walls can be pretty accurately determined.

Sorry for the "advertisement", but wanted to explain how a roofer can prepare an estimate without visiting the job site.

The fire department recently used it to determine where a lost hiker could be, based on his telephone description of what hes was looking at.

I wouldn't want to give an estimate based on just that. What is the condition of the roof currently? Leaks, holes, pipes, skylights, chimney, venting, layers, will it need a tear off or no? There's a lot that can go into the estimate. Your drawing tells them just how many square they need and that's it.

Post number 4 states that I have already given them details and photos so I am not asking anyone to bid on just my sketch

If they came with a quote based on the info I provided and its 15k then I would just tell them thanks

If its 7k then I would ask them to go to the property to verify

I wouldn't hold a person to the final bid without going to look

A roofer probably has a number "per square" that they are pricing at, so imo yes, its enough to get a ballpark conversation started. But asking for a "quote" like a number you can expect to hold that contractor to is a different story.

At minimum you'd need to figure out what roofing product is going to be used for new. The 2:12 screams problems to me if shingles are involved, a heavy dose of ice+water would be on my radar screen.

There are many details to be hashed out: what kind of strip and prep is happening, what kind of underlayment, drip edge, ridge vents to be added, valleys, any penetrations, etc, etc, etc. Not saying that a homeowner needs to have knowledge of absolutely all of them but some discussion should take place about what is all included and where in the good-better-best-spectrum the materials & details will fall.
