Shingles vary in cost. Cheap single tab 25 year are about $25 a bundle. 3 bundles to a 100 square feet. 15# felt is cheap about $20 for 400 - 500 sqft roll. Low end about $100 per square for materials. The sky is the limit if you want fancy 50 year shingles.

Did my cabin last year. 24'X40" with a 12/12 pitch ran right around $1500 by recollection for material only. Remember drip edge, snow and ice guard, a little flashing, a sheet of plywood, box of roofing nail coils, underlayment, tube of roofing tar, etc. Can't remember if that included a few rolls of insulation I added while I had the opportunity to open the roof.

Are you re-roofing heated living space? If so you may need to throw in the cost of water/ice shield for the eves. You may be required to have it where you live on any structure because of the colder climate.

We just put a new metal roof on a 50x100...cost about $12,000 total.

what gauge panel, was it a 36" wide R type panel, is that material only too?

right now here on west coast where i live they are talking about a price increase of about 5% but thats typical this time of year anyways. we are paying about 73 a square. of the two we would use right now, one is 245lb/square and the other is 261lb/square... both 30 year... or technically "lifetime" shingle. so really the only way to judge a shingle is by the weight of it. these two are heavy for 30 year compared to most other manufactures. i think certainteeds are down around 200lbs/square; so moral is pay attention.

as mentioned look at the self adhered for the overhangs and in any valleys too. price on that can vary too depending one what type of self adhered your going to use.. some are 40 mil some are 60 mil, some are high temp (metal roofing) most are not. you can pay 50 or 130 a 2 square roll. (3x66)

would really recommend venting it too, installing a ridge vent in it or some sort of other venting. Lomanco has a real nice ridge vent and also eave vent if your in a wild land fire type zone.

usually 15lb and 30lb cost about the same. 15lb is four square to the roll and 30 is 2 square to the roll.

We had ours re roofed last year. 49 total squares. Tear off. 25 year shingles.

It was right under $8k.

That's installed and everything. Not sure how much the materials were..

I can't remember exactly what gauge - it's the thinnest you can get in galvanized. 12 grand was about the total cost to have a crew screw it over the old shingles, no tear off. For a cheap(relatively) roof I'm pretty happy with it.
