So, we get a lot of hail. I have the standard asphalt shingle roof on my house, and it needs to be replaced. What other options do I have? I can't put on a seamed metal roof due to HOA restrictions, but just about anything else is ok. Obviously structural work is out of the question, so Spanish tile is not gonna happen. :)

The roofer I had do a building last year told me that not all shingles are the same. He said he used all the different brands and has finally settled on the Georgia Pacific brand.

He used hail damage as an example where two homes side by side ... both with new roofs in the same year went through a hail storm and the GP roof was not damaged but the neighbors had to be replaced.

You'll want to shop IR Shingles - (Impact Resistant Shingles) they are offered by the various roofing manufactures.

Good Luck

Paneled metal? Metal tiles?
There is a rubber tile that looks like slate.
I would think you don't want a metal due to dents and noise. Is the hail hard enough to dent cars regularly.

Volleyball is correct, metal probably isn't a good choice for you (however there are metal roof manufacturers that claim impact resistance).

Impact rated asphalt or if you want to open up your wallet a bit, here is one option for the EPDM tiles... http://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/...aterials-Roofing/EcoStar-Majestic-Slate-Tiles

For reference though, metal doesn't always have to look like metal (tthe typical standing seam type) I was thinking about installing something similar to these on my roof.

We get hail here often enough that we don't worry about using anything other than regular comp shingles. Haven't paid more than a deductible for a roof in as long as I've been a home owner. (I'm 56 so that's 38 years) Lots of metal roofs here, those seem to do well - but your restrictions don't leave you any choice looks like.
