room over garage - ideas

Framing done, roof on, electrical being run, bricki coming tomorrow, and now I a situation. The detached garage is 26x26 with a 12x26 room upstairs and steps at the back of the garage. I also had a walk in door put in the back corner so in the future if I decide I can close the upstairs access off from the gargage.
So what is the problem you ask, well I am facing the H&C size question so I ask the wife what do you want to do with the room....she says storage??
I had visions of a pool table, card table, home theater something cool but not just a place to store boxes and if so then I may as well not heat and cool it.

Do any of you have any ideas what you would or better yet have done with a room over your garage.

The pool table is a nice thought but your room really isn't big enough to play in comfortably. Unless you like using short cues. http://www.olhausenbilliards.com/roomchart.php

Home theater, bar area, game table, exercise room. You could even partition off 6-8 feet at one end for a storage closet and still do the other stuff.

Agreed, I had one in my dining room for a while. 12' wide is 4' too narrow for a pool table. But I've had the same thoughts about it that you've had. Besides, for the weight, you'd have to reinforce the hell out of the floor.

Go for the "Big Boys Club House"...TV, comfortable chairs, fridge, etc...You won't regret it!!!

Those pictures were taken about the time construction was winding down, but don't show the window treatments and trim. Note there's now a wet bar where along the wall the fridge is sitting on. There's also an amish built, oak media cabinet built into the kneewall where this picture just shows a large hole in the drywall.

Our bonus room above the garage is 38 X 14 with 3 dormers adding to that. It includes a full bath, closets and built in knee wall media cabinet, 60" HD Television, 7.1 Surround System, X Box 360, Network Jacks for 2 computers providing high speed internet, a Wet Bar, mini-fridge, window seats, 2 sky lights, hydronic heating and central AC.

We pretty much live up there.
