I'm building a rotary converter and am conserned I may be limited in my generator moror size due to my 100amp electrical service at the house. I've found a really nice 40hp motor, however the data plate says it draws 98/48 amps. Additionally the machine I will be running draws 38/19 amps. I'm unfamiliar with the math that's behind that, but I'm pretty cirtan my 3 phase generator if powered with this 40hp motor won't draw near that many amps.

What do you guys think? Anyone have similar sized 3 phase generators? The machine I'll run has a 15 hp motor so I need at least a 30hp generator motor.

What is the 15hp motor running?? It may not need a 30hp convertor, hard start the 2X rule applies, low load it's over kill. In any case 40hp is way more than you need....

It's running a Hydraulic system. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth if I find a good deal on a bigger than needed motor for cheap. As long as it doesn't throw breakers I'll use anything I can get.

I've got a couple 42kva ronk phase converters sitting in the shop right now. I think they are built with a 40hp motor frame. Single phase full load is listed at 180A.
