Getting ready to spring for a 2 post. 12' ceilings. Have narrowed down to Rotary SPOA-10-RA or Challenger CL10V3.

I'm not sure how important symmetric vs asymmetric is. This is for home use and not for trucks or even pickups. I want quality and safety.

I've read all the 2 vs 4 post stuff and like the apparent better access of a 2 post.

So...any comments or preferences on the above 2 lifts? I do want a clear floor lift. Any other recommendations for what fits under 144"?

Thanks,
Tom

I don't have anything to say about the Rotary lifts but I have the Ammco CV10 lift which is the same design as the Challenger Versalift and love it. I work on a wide range of vehicles and really wanted my posts in the symmetrical configuration but wanted the triple telescoping arms for FWD cars and the Ammco 2-N-1 was my choice which is the same as the Challenger you are looking at. Two of my co-workers also have the Challenger Versalift.

Nothing bad to say about the Rotary, just not as much experience with them as the Challenger/Ammco.

Given the slick marketing material out there for lifts, you should have trouble picking one. Most are very similar.
For cars only a asymmetrical, clear floor is probably best. You don't really need the 10k capacity for cars.

Note that I didn't recommend one or the other, but you would likely be happy with either. Once you use it a few times you will be so happy to have one the name on it won't matter.

I have a Rotary asymmetric 2-post and prefer it. It's easier to get in and out of the car when lifted, and the rubber trim on the posts is a nice touch to prevent damage to the car door. Make sure you get the clear-floor model as mentioned above, especially if you have a low car.

Either one would be a big upgrade compared to jacks and jack stands, though. :)

I had a Nussbaum 2 post 8k Assymetric- It was handy for cars, but sort of sucked for trucks. My buddy had a symmetric Challenger 2 post. My Dodge Ram was easier to line up, but still a pain in the *** on his lift. I would say either lift is fine quality. Look at dealer support and parts availability

I got a forward lift. 10k # rated asymmetrical. Made by rotary. Really like it so far. What is the problem with trucks and asymmetrical?

The problem I have always had was that you can't get the truck forward enough to prevent the back end from sagging. 1/2 ton trucks you would be fine with the front pads flat and the rear pads with the small risers flipped up. 3/4 and 1 ton trucks I never liked lifting as the rear of the truck would be too bouncy. On the 9k LB Rotary I used a 1 ton ex cab dully was just unsafe.
