I am looking at the Rotary SPO12 two post lift as I have read good things about it here. I am also considering the SPO12-Wide lift as well. Are there any disadvantages going with the SPO12-Wide if I have a big enough shop?

Only disadvantage that Ive ever seen is if a wide lift has short arms then it can be a pain to set up longer vehicles since the width of the lift takes away some of the reach of the arms. I think the SPO12 has three stage arms though so it shouldn't be a huge deal.

I have a 10k that is considered wide and it only has 2 stage arms so being able to reach the front and rear lifting points on long pickups can be very hard. My 12k lift that is even wider has three stage arms and it is no problem to reach anywhere on the frame that I need to set the arms.

I will mainly be lifting smaller vehicles. I have a 1975 MG and a 1989 S10 Blazer but I do have a 1989 C2500 extended cab, full length bed, truck. It is about 22 feet long so I think a symmetrical lift would be best for lifting the truck. If there is an issue with the pillars blocking the doors on the smaller vehicles then I thought that the wider lift would help with not obstructing the doors on the smaller vehicles, so much.

I hope my reasoning is sound.
