I built my rotissiere with stationary vertical end posts.

Camaro body will turn with one hand.

I'm wanting to rework end posts so they can be raised/lowered for ease of installing body

Want to save rotating section complete so trying to figure easiest way to telescope what I have. Vertical Post is 3.5"x.120 wall so 3" sq is too loose inside. I could replace vertical with 3.5"x.180 so 3" could telescope.
Then weld small portion of existing 3.5" that has rotating assy onto the 3" telescoping portion (confused yet?)

ALSO...would like to SEE pics of Rotissiere's using auto bumper jacks to raise/lower versus more expensive hydraulic options.

Thanks for your input

I like the idea of the 3.5 x .180 extension.
I have never liked the idea of bumper jacks.
I don’t think any of the OEM ones were ever built well.
Unless you go with some of the aftermarket “high lift” ones like the off road guys use, I would stay with hydraulic.

I did mine a little different. I use 2 HF worm drive winches (2,000 lbs capacity each) and I can lift my car off the floor. The pulley at the top is a roller for a motorized gate. My car only weighs 2200 lbs so the structure can be lighter than what you would need.

Like your worm drive set-up, but I want to save and use existing rotator set-up.

Want to keep retrofit simple, easy, cheap.............

Bumper jacks may not LOOK super professional, but should be plenty strong enough.
Vertical adjustment would be pinned with high strength bolts to lock in place, after achieving desired height............

take what you have and cut the upright off about 3in below your pivot.
go to the local metal supply place and find a square tube that will fit inside the tube you currently have. if there is too much play you will need to sheetmetal as a spacer shim.

weld the pivot to the top of the new square material you get and cut the uprights a couple of inches above you triangular bracing.

insert you new material with the pivot welded onto it into your now shorter uprights. do some measuring and some math to prep for drilling holes in the upright so you can have the adjustability you are looking for.

here is what I did:

Bob, I really like your idea but what do you do with them when you are not using them. The garage looks a little tight.:)

in the past I have loaned it out to a friend when I have not been using it and at other times I have just left it outside.
I remove the winches before outside storage.
it has always been my intension to prep and paint the thing but over the years I have never found the time to do so.
I made this thing 15 or so years ago and in that time it has sat empty for perhaps 2 of those years
