I got a 1955 Bridgeport and am getting ready to situate it in my shop and have VFD on order for the 3 phase 1 HP motor. Anyway, I want to fire it up and whip out a couple of projects before I move on to shuffle my garage around to final configuration, run the conduit, install the VFD... The mill came with a Rotophase, so I'll use that for a couple of weeks then scrap it. So, I temporarily kludge the Rotophase off a spare breaker in my panel. Check the output. I got about 275 volts on 2 legs and 260 on the third. Is this normal, broken, worn out, work for 2 weeks?

Are your voltage readings under load? What is the input voltage? Are we to assume that your readings are phase to phase, L1 - L2 L2- L3 and L3 - L1? On my home built the voltages tend to sag a bit under load so you may be OK. Your generated leg is high until loaded so your readings would make sense if your unloaded.

Rotophase is worth money to someone.

The voltages will never match. Don't worry about it.

Real 3 phase has the AC peaks at 120 degrees apart clocked on a polar plot. Rotophase will have a peak at 0, somewhere near 90 more or less, and 180.

L1 and L2 in from the wall are at and create the 0 and 180 peak angles.

No load, open circuit voltage at Rotophase output. Meter is brand new Fluke 177. Input is right at 240V.

Yup, I plugged it in and ran for an hour. Works fine. No excess heat in the motor or anything. Thanks for the encouragement gentlemen.
