OK furnace guys, I need help with this. I have a 25K overhead furnace model FE25 SN AYK66W7N20155 that has severe rust in the side panels. It has only been in use for 5 years- I bought it NOS. It was manufactured in 1999 but was stored in it's original crate (which I still have) unused in a warehouse until 2012 when it was installed. It's been in service now for about 5 years and has rot and holes through the side panels to where I am concerned about its structural strength. The building it is in is extremely dry- air conditioned in the summer and a dehumidifier runs 24/7 since it was installed. There is never a wet vehicle, wet floor, leakage of any type or moisture in the building. It is a 900SF block building, well insulated and built in 2003. The furnace is mounted about 8' up with a 12' ceiling and the power vented out through the block wall. It is not the sole source of heat, the garage also has 125K tube heat, the Reznor is set for 50F to keep the pipes from freezing at night. I am baffled why the side panels are rotting out. Can you tell me why this is happening or explain it to me?
Should anything be done? Is this a structural problem where the furnace could break in half and fall?

I contacted Reznor two weeks ago and they said a local rep would get a hold of me, but with the holidays and brutal cold I'm sure they're running behind. I'll contact them again next week.

You can see from the pictures the bad rot on the right side and similar bubbling on the left side that would probably go through if I pushed on it with my finger. The middle hole on the right side was pushed through with my finger. It's very soft on both sides and I'm sure if I used a pick hammer I could open up huge holes.

Thank you,
