Rough wiring for mini-split

I'm getting ready to run wiring for a 18,000 BTU mini-split AC for my garage. Reading the manual it says the following:

Install a surge protector and a disconnect switch box, and a dedicated circuit breaker with a capacity of 1.5 times the maximum current of the unit.

A properly rated HACR-type fuse or circuit breaker that disconnects all poles and has a contact separation of at least 1/8in (3mm) must be incorporated in the fixed wiring. The qualified technician must use an approved circuit breaker or fuse.

Minimum circuit ampacity - 15A
Max fuse - 20A

So what do i need? My guess is 2 pole 240V 20A breaker with 12/2 wiring into a fused (30A) disconnect box, with a 12 gauge whip to the unit.

Where is the unit in relationship to the unit? If it's local then a 14 wire to a 20 breaker.

Does the nameplate only list fuses?

No idea - i'm looking at the data sheet to try and figure out what to do before i get it.

I think you just need a dedicated 240V 20a breaker, 14/2 wire (2 hots and a ground), and an unfused disconnect.

I would probably use 12/2 since I would have to go buy the 14/2.

But you should probably confirm with your inspector.

Also red tape to mark the second hot.

In the same vein I am wiring my new shop. I have a Mr Cool 36k mini which lists minimum ampacity at 25 and max fuse at 35. I had planned on running 10/3 (because I have it) with a 30 amp breaker and disconnect. The unit will need about an 80' run from the sub panel to the disconnect. I was just going to use a manual disconnect, does it need to be fused also?

Can you post a photo of the data plate? If it only mentions fuses then a fusible disconnect will have to be used, the good news is fusible pull out disconnects are cheap.

Well as Norcal pointed out above, if it lists fuses only, then you will have to use them.

The unit is still in the box in storage since I am trying to keep things out of the shop before their time, I am reading off their literature to get the 25 and 35 numbers. My takeaway is if it lists a max fuse of 35 I should use that form of disconnect. I figure since I have the 10/3 It will be fine with the 30 amp breaker. Does the seperate service receptacle need to gfci if it is on a gfci protected circuit?
