Rounded off fasteners

Which size fasteners are most likely to be rounded off small or large
I want to know which sizes I need to concentrate on switching to six point first thanks

For me it seems the smaller stuff is more likely to round, so I'd concentrate on getting some 6 pts in 1/4 and 3/8 drive and then worry about the 1/2 stuff.

Any nut or bolt used in the exhaust system and place they get rounded off and corrode.Even battery boxes,I had to remove a couple rounded out 10mm headed bolts in a 1999 Olds Alero holding a battery box on.I got lucky,got my twist socket set for the rounded off and damaged nuts and bolts which took them out with no problem.

Pretty much anything 3/8" drive capable and down. Hence why most of the larger size 1/2" and 3/4" sockets are usually 12pt

6 point is less likely to round off, and they are stronger and should be used on air/ electric impact guns. 12 point is great for a wrench set though in most sizes ~7 mm and up.

I agree with that, however, I bought Craftsman and Harbor Freight 1/2" SAE deep impact sets in 6pt because one set was ~$17 and the other ~$26.

Smaller ones round easier.

12 point sockets are not nearly so bad at rounding fasteners as everyone says they are. About the only time it makes the difference is if the fastener is damaged, or severely corroded. By corroded, I don't just mean surface rust. I mean the hex has lost enough material that you can fit the next smaller size socket on it.

Spline drive has more contact area than 6 or 12 point. I like those for corroded stuff.

Clearly not from the rust belt. About 15 and up would be a better assumption. Anything smaller and exposed is going to round VERY easily. For example, many exposed 15mm suspension bolts on Grand Prix's have to be drilled out or cut off and replaced on the rear trailing arms.

I was talking standard, chrome finished sockets, not impacts.
