I am changing the spark plugs on a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer.

One of the coil pack holder bolts which is 7mm is rounded. It is a tight fit.

I looked at bolt extractors but the smallest I can find is 8mm.

Any suggestions how to get it out??

I have moderate mechanical knowledge and a fair amount of tools.

Thank you all for any knowledge. Usually when I have questions I have gotten very good info from all of you.

If the bolt head is exposed, and on most of the coil packs I have seen it is. Try grabbing it with a pair of locking pliers or pliers that you can get a good grip with. Short of that you could drill off the head, just use caution to not nick the pack. once the head is off you could then remove the pack and just be left with an exposed stud.

i think pics would help us get an idea of space, and the situation. several ways to crack this nut, all different, some easier than others, and all may vary on what you have to work with.
