I always have a few cases where I am trying to prevent hardware (cabinet knobs, control arms, etc.) from damaging a surface with dents or abrasion. I have used velcro hook pads, saran wrap over clear vhb tape, rubber electrical tape, stick on and screw on bumpers, etc...each of which has a drawback of some sort (ugly, falls off, leaves hole).

I need to put something in the travel trailer to protect the wall from the medicine cabinet knob. Please share your favorite items used for such purposes...

How about a piece of packing tape to deal with abrasions?

For dents, you need to pad, reinforce or put in a stop. I tend to just use a felt chair leg pad to cushion door knobs where needed
