Rubber gym flooring for garage?

I got offered some 1/2” thick rubber flooring recently taken out of a large gym. It is 4’ x 4’ and I grabbed enough square footage for my garage. I’ve been wanting to do something with my garage floor for a while now but never pulled the trigger. This was free so figured what the heck I’ll take some. It’s in perfect condition and has interlocks on the edges.

I put a poly aspartic clear sealant on my garage when we moved in. I live near Houston and yes my garage floor does sweat and get wet a handful of times per year. I figured I’ll drag everything out of the garage, mop it clean, let it dry then lay down this flooring. Is there anything I need to be concerned about putting this in my garage? Any prep or precautions I should take? At worse I’ll have to drag it out every couple years and clean? It was free so I’ll give it a shot and see what happens. Worse thing if I don’t like it I’ll sell it on Craigslist or something. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi,
We have seen people try to use this flooring and it doesn’t work due to the fact it’s soft and compresses and will ‘walk’ and move around due to vehicle weight. Gluing it down may help.

we use that stuff in our basement in the laundry & exercise area. its fine for that, holds up reasonably well. It also has not moved as mentioned above. I can't see it handling cars, let alone jacks or such.

Be aware of petroleum products and solvents ( gas, oil, and etc). It will soften and eat away at the rubber.

My garage does not see any heavy work. It's full of kids toys and a few dirtbikes that I do minor mechanical work on. More of a man cave and a place to keep stuff. My wife used to park her Tahoe in there but now theres not enough room and she hasnt parked in there in a couple years. Even if she did its straight in and straight out, no turning of the tires. If I do any work on the cars or rotate tires its always in the driveway, not the garage.

I'm pretty excited to lay this down. I think it will work fine for my application. Was really just seeing if there is any concern that my floor sweats occasionally when the temps and humidity are wrong? Or if there was any precautions I could take for this? Would that black flower bed cloth do any good underneath? Its only a handful of times a year that it sweats and gets wet for an evening at a time and next day it is fine.

Sweating should not be an issue. The mats on the surface are not going to hold the same cold temps as the slab and should be above the dew point in most cases.

The synthetic landscape cloth is used for noise reduction under solid top interlocking plastic floor tiles. They have a hollow substructure underneath and are designed to drain liquids as well as allow airflow. That is why a synthetic cloth is used. It will serve no purpose under solid rubber mats.

The pads you have are fairly heavy duty and will hold up pretty good, I think most here figure you have the real light cheap foam like they sell at HF.

My only real warning, if they get wet underneath they end up slipping like you are walking on ice. I found that out the hard way. Lol

I've had the same ones in front of my work benches and also my dog tub for years now and they have actually held up pretty well.
