Rudimentry Estimates

Just got a quote from a spark. I considered DIY.
Anyhow, just for rough #'s, for fellow GJ estimates, where do you think this should land

Pull cable from exisiting conduit from house that exits the house about 40 feet
Trench another 100 feet or so.
On the other end of the trench, dig, core, run cable into the core, link-seal core and parge foundation.

A wild guess would be a solid days work, 2 man. Maybe 1 1/2 day depending on how fast/slow these guys go.... What do you think this estimate might run.

I had a rough # in mind, but I was sorta shocked by how much their # came back

The coring of the slab (I assume that is what you mean) and some of the other non-electrical portion of the work will probably be contracted out by the electrical contractor. I suspect that few electricians are equipped to bore a hole in a slab.

why not sleeve the slab before the pour and leave stubs on each end??

I've contracted out some work on several occasions, and have found that not only can I save a lot money by doing some of the basic work myself, but many contractors would prefer to come to a job and work their specialty, instead of having the customer pay them to trench or cut a hole in the concrete. Not only does it save their their time if they arrive and immediately begin the job, but it's cheaper and faster for them if they can understand all of the risks in the job; otherwise, they need to add money to the price to cover the unknown risks, such as hitting rock or concrete while trenching. I realize not all contractors work this way, but many of the smaller contractors work this way.

I'm from Rochester and used to hire work to be done in NYC. EVERYTHING costs more down there.

I remember once having to tip the elevator operator $ 50.00, ( that was in 2002, wonder what the charge is now ) just to have him take the electricians ( hand ) tool box from the loading dock to the 24th floor. The union electrician wouldn't pay, and couldn't work without the box.

Hi Jim -

Yes, I'm out on the East End of the Island...
And yes, I get that pricing is regional....and my sparky is not exactly the cheapest.....

It might be a option to get another bid, but I've used this sparky for quite a bid on this current build.

k3dpc. The foundation is all prexisting....hence the core.

Well, at the least you aren't IN the city. That helps some, but the "end" of the island isn't inexpensive either.

I'd have to look at the job. $2500-$4000. Plus taxes.

$50? Did he demand that or how did u come up with that number?

Does the bid include the spark buying all the materials?
