Rule #1: Know What You Already Bought

So last week I saw that the Craftsman pry bars were on sale, $17 or so for the set of 3. I don't need the largest size and especially wanted the smallest one, otherwise I could have lived without the set.

Today I was trying to manage the disorder a little and found a Wilde pry bar I ordered from Harry Epstein maybe 2 months ago. DOH!

So... my new rule #1 is to make sure I don't already own something before I order a new tool.

I'll probably break this rule before the end of the night.

I would say you are not using your tools near enough if your not remembering what ya got. Now get out in your shop/garage and show them tools some love. Hey any thing is a good reason to buy tools if you had not bought them they may have been bought by some one that would have mistreated them. Do ya feel better now. ha ha

Problem is that I have my tools, new samples, and new purchases, and sometimes something will end up burried.

A lot of my tools are used fairly regularly, but some I buy because I know I will need them, or if I find a great deal on a set.

Not to long ago SO had a deal on 1/4 metric swivles, I picked them up and wondered if I would use them, I put them bach because I thought I could spend what ever he said they were on something eles. I go back to work and there in my top drawer is a set of Mac's I've had for ten years, I guess that answered if I ever use them.

I hate that. I own 2 (pretty much brand new) MAC triple square drive sets. I rarely use the damn things but when I need em, I need em. So now I have a set at the house and the shop, lol.

I'm guilty of this too! I just say "Oh well, you can never have enough tools!" and I feel better almost immediately! Try it, you'll be happy too!

i actually have a pretty good idea of whats in my shop boxes, service truck, garage boxes , and house tools. i'll buy duplicates of some things, mainly to keep in the house, to save me from getting dressed to go to the garage for a screwdriver or pair of pliers.

my work tools are for work, garage tools stay in the garage,
very rarely i have to get something out of my truck to work on anything in the garage or house.

i do have a couple of those WTF do i need 3 of these for :headscrat

I usually have a good idea of what I have as well. Finding what I need is another challenge.

Broken Rule #2 - Know where my tools are.
