Rule for putting up own website link in sig?

Hello, I'm a new member who had just signed up. I've been looking around the forum for a specific general rules thread but wasn't able to find one.

Is there a rule against posting the link to your own website in your signature or posting a link to your website in your own thread in the Classified section?

This has come up before, and I can't recall the details of how it played out.

People here tend to dislike it when a brand new member starts advertising a business. Ryan, the site admin, welcomes paid sponsorship on the front page of the website. That being said, I am certain that I have seen small links to personal businesses in members' signature lines.

Are you here to be a part of the community, or mostly to advertise?

Up until now I've been an on-off lurker on the forums for the past 4 months, dwelling mostly in the General Tools discussion section and being content with just reading what people write, occasionally learning things.

The motive of me making an account is to take part in the Classified ad and see if I can make a sale here or there on the forums as well as get my name out there. It'd be plenty nice to eventually get involved with the community as well, seeing as I have an account now.

Speaking as a 'run of the mill' member, I don't think you'll get much push back as long as you're not obnoxious about it and keep a low profile (i.e., don't spam the classified's with a dozen ads at a time). If you want to ensure a warm welcome, lurk less and get involved a little. I realize that running a business can be extremely time consuming, but taking a few minutes to help people out in your area of expertise will probably go a long way.

I think the rule is pretty much the same anywhere you go; Be a genuine participant in the forum and you shouldn't have a problem. Don't just pop in, spew an ad and expect it all to be ok

So what kind of stuff are you looking to sell? Anything in particular, or whatever you come across?

Also, I don't suppose you know of any shipping options other than Canada Post for stuff from Canada?
