Rule suggestion for classifieds

Can a rule be put in place that limits the number of classified threads a person can have "active" at a time?

I don't begrudge someone selling their items, nor starting a post to do so, I just think it is unfair to all other members who have diligently combined their for sale listings to have their thread bumped "to the back" because someone has started almost half of the first 40 threads in the Classified section (like the case is currently).

Personally I prefer 1 item per post with a good descriptive title. I hate sorting through posts that are weeks old with lots of information and only 2 items left forsale.

I agree with both, but, starting numerous ads at the same time bumps everyone down. Maybe something like (X) amount of ads may be posted per 24hr period or something.

Member gj67stang is running a business on the Garage Journal site.
He even has the audacity to name his business GJ Tools.
He is unhappy because I inadvertently placed 13 classified ads in a 5 hour period in the classified section, thus moving his advertising for his business down and along in the classified section.
I am sorry that I placed so many ads in a short period of time and may have cost this member exposure on the free classified section of the GJ, Garage Journal site for his business venture.
Please do not make a rules change because of my actions as "I" can understand how this may effect the other legitimate ad posters and will in the future take the individual member seeking to sell a few items into consideration.
As stated in the posting rules: I am not looking to run a business or post a profit.
Thank you.

Frank, sorry I've offended you.

I was simply making a suggestion for the moderators to consider. Maybe a good one, maybe a piss-poor suggestion - they can decide.

(Just an FYI: My "business" (if you could really call it that - it's more of a name for my hobby workshop) is named GJ Fabrication not because of Garage Journal, but because of my name, Garth Justinger.)

Garth,

I am not offended, but I just would rather not be the A hole who caused a rules change on the classifieds.
As I stated, I'll be a little more concious of how the days activities are spacing out my ads next time. Put a few less in there.

But be honest Garth, you're a business, so, be sure to give a little back.

Maybe you could post one of those tools you have in your collection as an auction item to the GJ as a show of solidarity to our host and his cause. I have known him to donate a lot to those in need of some help and I like to support him in those efforts, maybe you could join him in his efforts to make a difference in peoples lives.

This is a nice site and it is a great thing to help support it.

Very true - GJ is a great place with lots of great people! I really like the idea of auctioning off one of my "creations" for a good cause. I'll be getting in touch with one of the moderators soon to see what we can work out!

Just for the record: this suggestion has come up before, and there is merit to it. Frank, you are not the cause of anything, and if folks make multiple listings here and there, it's no big deal.

Personally, I always consolidate, but no matter what you do, some people will think or wish it was different.

As long as no one posted after you, You can. I do delete solds and thats one reason I tend to single item post. Not sure if the mods like us deleting but it works.

I agree with your reasoning here. Unfortunately making a rule to prevent over posting would be pretty hard to implement fairly. In the past mods have suggested that members combine multiple posts, but people continue to ignore that, for what ever reason.

Most of the classified rules already in existence are rarely enforced anyway, I doubt there's much to be gained from another unenforced mandate.

What a joke.

We are always getting PMs from people in there who are upset over actions we've taken because of rule violations. Then you, not knowing what's going on, claim the rules aren't enforced.

The joke is the absolute, steadfast rule against chattering and bitching about prices in classified threads, yet they go on for PAGES every single day. I grew weary of of reporting them and quit bothering a long time ago.

I see. So when hundreds of members post in hundreds of threads per week, and several mods can't get to all of it on your schedule, then the only logical answer is that nothing is enforced to begin with.

Can you see deleted threads or posts? No.

Can you see PM exchanges between mods and members regarding violations in that section? No.

If you stopped reporting things because of weariness from hitting a button on the screen, then you have nothing to complain about.

For general knowledge: Ryan and Eric get reports. I do not seem to receive them, at least not reliably. A PM to me is what works best.

I use the NEW POSTS button on the black tool bar and see all new posts regardless of what page they're on. Am I in the minority?

Nope, I'm with you. Furthermore, if I'm looking for something for sale, I'm likely going to search for it anyway. Flipping a few pages isn't a big deal either way.

Not as bad as I thought. On the first page, 6 out of 20 aren't in violation of at least one rule.

I just spent twenty minutes on page one. It should, as of this moment in time, be all good, except for two bumps that were an hour or two shy of 72 hours. Left my ******** armband in the truck, so I can't be a Nazi about that right now.

Yah I have not been sweating those but the real early bumps are getting infractions.

I think that some of the buyers should slow down and give the rest of us a chance to ****** up the steals that come through. I've been beaten to the punch several times in the past few weeks; tools that I really wanted.

...and: :)
