I need to transition between SER in the house to a conduit run of XHHW-2. I intend to do it with terminal blocks in a 10x10x4 metal junction box set in the exterior wall of my attached garage with the access panel facing the inside of the garage. Planning on bringing the SER down through the top of the box (with appropriate wire clamp) and then having the XHHW go out of the back of the box and through the exterior wall in 2" rigid conduit to a metal lb body, then down into the ground with EMT, transitioning to pvc at ground level.
I saw in a thread somewhere that bringing something into the back of a breaker panel was a no-no, does this also apply to a junction box?
Also, is there a requirement on the size box I need to use? I chose the 10x10x4 because it will sit flush with the wall after it is installed, but I can go bigger or deeper if necessary. Thank you!
