I will be building a shop next year and can't figure out what is a better way to go with the electrical coming into the building. Should I put conduit in the floor when its poured and run it in that way or get it up to the building and bring it up in conduit and go through the metal wall?

The building will be a pole building that will eventually (10 yrs or so down the road) be insulated if that makes a difference.

I did not see anything in the code where it made a difference but I may have overlooked something as well so I thought I would check with those more knowledgeable then I.

Since it's new construction I think for a cleaner install it's best to bring the conduit up through the floor into the wall.

New Construction, I like Patten's way - it is cleaner and usually makes the power company happy. Make sure you check with the power company, they may only do overhead or like in our area, ONLY underground. Don't get me wrong they still have plenty of poles up, but they are trying to put new stuff underground and price it much better that way, than over head.

You may want to put a spare conduit or two in, I did in my recent build, just in case. I play ham radio, and it is much cleaner, and more critter proof than putting holes in the walls. And with solar and new technology coming down the road, it is nice to have options. My spare 90s just end a foot or so off the footer.

best of luck

The building will not have a footer, this will be a slab poured on grade over a vapor barrier after the building is up so I will be doing ground rods for the grounding.

I also have the wires already run out to the location since the current building has electric but the current building is just a dirt floor so I trenched through the dirt and came up.

I am assuming you will not need a seperate meter for this building. My building has its own service with the meter mounted to the structure. I agree that underground would look nicer but if the interior walls are finished you will not ever see it either way. If I was waiting ten years to finish it I would likely go underground.
