Run wires through a solid corner or up and over the wall??

If there are (4) 2x6's ganged together, that is likely a post load from above. I would leave it alone and go up or down but not thru.Hi I’m wiring my new room addition, and wondering if it’s better to just go up and over the wall or go ahead and drill through the corners to run my wires even though theyre solid. (There’s four 2x6s in a row in the pic behind the 2x4)

I'd go up and over. I hate drilling 2x4 walls. You need a nailing plate on every hole with a 2x4 wall, unless you drill it perfectly centered, with a 7/8" or less hole. You can drill that corner easily enough, and just put in a nail plate as you'll have to start the hole near the outside edge of the 2x4. I'm assuming an 8' or 9' ceiling height. If the ceiling is much higher, my opinion may change. Until 2x6 walls became standard in new construction, I never drilled horizontially unless it were just a couple of studs. Even now I hate it. I had an employee that is a 40 year electricain that would drill every 2x4 stud around the house rather than go up to the ceiling, if he had a choice...

True - but if you know what you are looking at, you can quickly determine if its a post load or not.Some framers will just triple or quadruple the studs even if it's not a post load. Regardless, I'd go up or down, as well.

I'd be going up and over as long as the ceiling is 10' or less and there are trusses to go over vs. having to drill floor joists. Yep, I'm lazy but either way, I would have been done in less time that it took to make this thread.
