Running air compressor lines outside

I plan to put my compressor in my basement and plumb the lines to the attached garage and the shortest, best route is outside the building. The run will be about twenty feet, at the most.

I live in the Atlanta area so winters are somewhat mild but winters can still get in the teens, if winter is going to be an issue here.

Is there any downside to having compressor lines outside? I plan on using galvanised piping.
Thanks!

No downsides really, assuming you run the lines so they are protected from abuse.

Will the lines be buried or attached to a structure?

If buried, I'd do pex-al-pex lines rather than galvanized pipe.

You should think about a dryer if you are going to use galvanized pipes - or at least a drip loop that you can drain on a regular basis.

The lines will exit the basement, be attached to the house, then continue to the back of the garage, then thru the wall into the garage.

Many people complain about the noise of a compressor.
Are you sure you want it in the house?

I have my compressor and compressed air piping outside in Chicago winters and have not experienced any problems. I could not imagine having it inside the house. It would be very loud.

I do have a drain valve in the short pipe run outside just to make sure no water sits in the pipe although I do not drain it at that valve often and when I do little water appears. The pipe is sloped towards the garage entrance where another drain valve is located.

There is plenty of information on what types of pipe to use for compressed air. Do some investigation before committing to galvanized pipe so you understand the pro and con of this type pipe.

Good luck with the install.

Yeah, I know they're noisy; I had this compressor in the basement of my previous house. It's going to be in part of the basement where I can build a closet around it.

I do appreciate all the ideas here. Thanks!

The only issue I see is you may see some moisture as the warm air cools in the piping outside. If you have a solution for getting rid of the water, it should be fine
