Look like I will be installing my MR Heater myself.
Question? When I run the chimney thu the attic .
I have approx 24" of cellulose insullation that I had blown in.
Is it ok to have it touching the B-Vent chimney as it runs thru the attic?
Or do I have to have the 1"clearence to combustables?

In a perfect world the answer would be keep a 1" clearance to combustibles, in reality, as a heating contractor i have never seen it done,

In my own garage the insulation touches the class b chimney.

Build yourself a little dam to surround the penetration of the insulation, if only for piece of mind.

Typically, the modern day cellulosic insulation is chemically treated to raise the ignition point above any conceivable situation.

This may not be the case with insulation found in much older homes. Bear in mind that most of the cellulose insulation is sourced from recycled paper products. Keep the insulation dry and you should be fine.

For sure I will insist the gas fitter has a permit taken out .
I will also take out a homeowner electrical permit for the wireing I have done
in the garage.
But is it nessesary for the B-Vent as well. I guess a call to the city is in order.
It seem in my City all the contractors want to sell & install their own product. $2600 was one quote . Must be a much better heater?????? Its a busy time of year for them. I was just to lazy to crawl up into the attic. But now I am pissed off & will have to get it done myself.
