Running Cable to garage Help

I have a detached garage about 50 feet from my house. There is no cable run to my garage. I was wondering if there are any cable guys out there who can tell me how to tie into my cable from the house and run it to the garage? Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

A splitter at the house (preferably an amplified one) and just run one wire to the garage.

Assuming you are speaking of TV cable, in order to minimize signal loss it would be best to tap on to a port in the main cable box on the outside of the house. ( assuming your TV service terminates on the exterior) Mine is the gray box to the left of the electric meter. Then, the wire can be done aerial to the garage or buried in PVC conduit. JMO

What gregtwojeeps said. The old way was one line into the house and daisey chain everything. Way too much signal loss and balancing that way. Now one connection outside the house with a tap to each home run for a specific TV or modem.
Make sure you have quality cable with weather tight fittings outdoors. I think you're going to need RG6 for a run that far.

I ran CAT 5 for my alarm system and threw a cable in there for Directv too.

I also put in water and an spare 1 1/2" conduit with a pull string for any future needs...

Somewhere around page 80-90 I'd guess, I documented how I ran the Cat5e out to my garage.

Get the "buried rated" RG6 cable which has the goo in there. This could be direct buried, but instead I'd suggest a 1" or bigger conduit for all your low voltage wires out to garage . . . . like CATV, internet, phone, security, intercom, etc. Run several "spare" CAT5e ethernet while you're at it, along with leaving a pull string in the conduit.

i would note here that there has been no mention about how the out building is powered. i ask because if the out building is a "child" of the house (it gets its power from the house), all this is fine.

if, however, the out building has a separate "drop", there can be issues with "ground loops". while it is likely that this won't be a big deal, i have seen it be a huge deal, with massive damage when electricity starts moving between the buildings when it is not supposed to.

If you are on sat dish at house just ad a separate sat dish and get a extra box.
