Running Electrical through the foundation

I'm getting ready to pour the footers for the new garage. It will be a 8x16 footer with 2 8" blocks on top. I'm in North Carolina with no frost line, so footers don't have to be very deep.

I'd like to run the power up through the foundation and in the wall vs coming up outside and going through the wall to the panel.

Issue is - the footer will be a minimum of 4" below grade. so to get 24" below ground - I'd have to be 12 inches below the footer, which means coming up through the footer with the conduit.

Other than needing to be spot on with my conduit location - are there any reasons why I should just **** it up and run it up outside the wall and ell into the subpanel? Is running the 2" conduit up through the footer a no-no? Does electrical conduit need a sleeve or foam like plumbing?

Hi Christo,

Sounds like you’re on the right track, seems to be a typical installation. Use a UL approved electrical conduit suitable for your use and approved in the area you live (most likely the grey SCH 40 PVC).

Also, if it is a detached building, don’t forget to put in the grounding electrode conductor in the footer as well.

It might be a good idea to check with your local building department on the expansion foam for the conduit.
