Running wire in attic

I am adding an RV receptacle about 25 feet over from where the breaker panel is in an existing detached garage. Wire will go up to attic and over. SER cable so no conduit. Was thinking about how much trouble it will be to dig in the insulation to find the bracing or running boards that are already there to tack the cable to. I could take a few 2 x 4s, tack them to the diagonals of the trusses just above the insulation and run the wire on that. It would only be a couple more feet of wire and avoid digging around in insulation. Could go diagonally to minimize wire length. Weather is still cool here so it's not a hot attic. Just figured I would run it by the group to get some feedback or other ideas.

I would go with whatever is easiest and doesn't get in the way. Digging through all the insulation sounds like a pain, I would skip that route

100% I'd run it above if it's not cost prohibitive. When my contractor did my bathroom he fitted three (IIRC) ~24" 2x4's sticking up vertically out of the insulation and put my work boxes up on those and marked what circuit each box contained.

A 1" board is plenty thick enough to run wire or cable on.

In most cases I would agree but may run it diagonally so a long span - maybe 8'. Seems a bit light for that - maybe ok but would spring enough to make it hard to drive staples. And the cost of 1 x 4 vs 2 x 4 is minimal. $2.29 vs $2.98.
