I like KAI scissors. My "daily drivers" are a KAI 5210, and I also have a KAI 7300 for special occasions (and also just pure awesome-factor).

I'll second the KAI stuff. The "Tools of Japan" thread lead me to purchasing two sizes for general purpose cutting - N5210 (210mm or 8in) and N5135 (135mm or 5.5in).

I also have a pair of 8in Klein "High-Leverage Utility Shears" (22003) that I bought specifically for cutting the braided sleeving I was using on a wiring harness.

These are in my work toolbox. The C&R and Clauss are from when I did single ply roofing. The other two I’m not sure where they came from but they cut. If I were at home I could pull out the hood stuff with no rust. When my mom passes one day I’m sure I’ll get all of her too because I’m the only one in our family that can still sew.

Bumping this good thread.
I’ve been using the heck out of these KAI kitchen shears for close to a year now.
I love that the blades quickly come apart to clean and love having one pointed side and the other blunt.
The cutting edges were scary sharp new and have held up tremendously well.

yes! My daughter bought a pair of Shun-branded shears at the last factory sale (I work two blocks from the Shun/Kai/ZT/Kershaw HQ) and I had her buy me another pair at the sale this year. They are a joy to use.

Thanks. I'll check them out.
I also have the V5210 for office use and it's been great.

Hi, in searching for old scissor logos I stumbled upon this thread, very interesting. I have been sharpening salon scissors as a hobby long ago and still am called upon every now and then to attend to blunt things - some of them near antiques as well as old sewing scissors from all over, especially Germany and sometimes Japan and England; modern scissors just can't beat the sturdy old classics from Solingen and Sheffield etc. although they try their best with ball bearings in the pivot mechanism and such like. I notice this is a very old topic, but then again them scissors [and some of us] are as well, groete uit Suid Afrika :)

I own many scissors, since cheap, some not. When I want something easy to use and able to cut most things I use wolff brand. If I think I might damage the scissors I grab the wiss because they cut well, are much cheaper, but not nearly as comfortable to use

This is one place where I really don't care about quality. Sharpen them with 400 grit diamond across the edge and any scissors will have enough bite to work just fine. The problem with most scissors is the the blades leave the factory with a very smooth cutting edge. That allows them to slip instead of cut.

I have probably around twenty pairs of scissors and shears, from my Felco #7 pruners to ten-inch shop shears, tin snips and dikes to barber shears for beard and mustache trimming, but these:

are my permanent companions. The only time they aren't in my right front pocket is when they're in use!

I have several pairs because I've lost several over the years--only to find them again when I buy new pair!
