Runout and deflection testing on my old drill press
View media item 77898I have a 1950's Tiger 15 that I just finished restoring (new bearings, etc.)
I decided to check the runout and deflection.
I'm curious if these are typical numbers for an old machine like this?
I'll note that you cannot tighten the bore for the quill on this drill press, so I just have to live with the deflection.

- Max deflection by pushing chuck with hand: 0.0020" (measured at top of spindle taper)
- Runout on shank of 3/8" drill bit: 0.0035
- Runout outside of chuck below lettering: 0.0025"
- Runout at top of spindle taper (above chuck): 0.0025"
At 3.75" of Quill Extension
- Max deflection by pushing chuck with hand: 0.0050" (full swing, pull to push)
- Runout outside of chuck below lettering: 0.0025"
- Runout at top of spindle taper: 0.0025"
