Runs in Latex Paint

Got a smooth fiberglass entrance door that we decided to paint black...no problem I say...without brush marks says the boss.

So I break out the Sata Jet 100 spray gun and shoot a first coat. Haven't sprayed in awhile and wasn't pleased with the gun settings for the latex paint we got for the job. BTW the paint is spec'd for spraying.

So for the second coat I thinned the paint a little, up to 10 % OK says the can, do a few test sprays and shoot the door. Had the boss holding a 500 watt work light and we have a setup to paint the door upright....looks good.

Then the runs showed up.....damn....so what to do?

I've used a paint file to remove runs in automotive paint but not sure it will work on the latex.

Going to look at it in the morning but I think it may be a long day.

Any ideas, techniques to take out the runs appreciated.

3m green paper is made for latex. It's probably your best hope. Latex doesn't sand well as you know. This paper helps.

Ended up that the only solution was to strip it, have one side done. Will be shooting it horizontal one side at a time....lesson learned.

Will get some of the 3m paper for some other work so thanks for that sugestion.
