Rust Bullet vs. Epoxy

Hi,

I'm just starting a 32 x 28 build in WI. I've settled on using Rust Bullet (I think) for the floors, but I've been thinking... Isn't the net result between epoxy and RB the same? ie... the floors look nicer, cleaner, etc... plus if you apply some type of broadcast flake, what's the real difference besides the gray color? It seems as though RB is AT LEAST as durable as epoxy, if not more so. Am I wrong?

The only question I have... does anyone have any real LONG TERM data on RB on concrete?

About the same price as well once you go the flake route...I went with rust bullet since it seems like it will be easier for DIY. I'm in the process now and will post results once done.

I went RB on my new shop. The decision for me was in the slab prep. I power washed the slab, let it dry and put the RB down. It is a good surface and more easily cleaned than bare concrete. The epoxy required grinding, priming, epoxy, urethane, etc. Not for me in other words.

Rust bullet seems easier and also seems durable but doesn't look quite as nice as epoxy IMO.

I've yet to see one that doesn't have some streaking and it has lower gloss as well. (unless they have a clear top coat?)

There are many options in the marketplace and therefore you will have to do a little research to find your huckleberry. Epoxy with a urethane topcoat leaves a very glossy appearance in addition to good "hide" and chemical resistance. Single Component Moisture Cured Urethanes fortified with aluminum, from the pictures and write-ups I have seen on this forum, lack in pigment continuity, hide and gloss appearance.

Not everyone wants all the imperfections hidden and apparently glossy, uniform floors are not always desirable.

But if you do a full flake and clear top coat over the RB- wouldn't that mitigate any lack in pigment continuity, hide and gloss appearance issues.... and you would get the benefit of a much easier prep?

I am looking seriously at a full flake RB job to avoid the grinding and minimize the time that the interior pieces of my garage have to kept on the driveway while the install and cure goes on.

This one is from 2008. Not only were the railings done, but the concrete slabs were protected. It was in Ghana, Africa, where the atmospheric conditions are waaaaaaaaay more severe than anyone’s garage.

When we first started actively marketing RB for this application, we did several floors with GJ members, at a reduced rate in return for photos etc. I honestly don't recall a single one having roller mark issues.

We did have one gentleman roll clear on top of the gray before it was cured. We got him taken care of. You can see several of these jobs on our photos tab here: http://www.garageflooringllc.com/rust-bullet-concrete/ and we are working on a better way to lay those out.

You can't make any product absolutely positively perfect for anyone to install, but I believe our install video and some other changes have made the product as easy to install correctly as any you will find.

The main thing to understand is you can make a Rust Bullet floor or most coatings look how you want them to look.
