Generally, over a typical concrete slab that is clean and dry, no grinding or etching is required. If you have an inordinately smooth floor we suggest adhesion testing prior to application.

It is also important to make sure there is no cure n seal or other sealer on the floor.

There are several different ways to do it. I know we had one customer who used it and decided some prep was necessary. I know of one job where I wish we had discussed the option sooner.

Take a small amount of the material. Apply it in say a 4" -12" area. If you can, put something under one corner to give you a place to try and lift it. After 72 hours try you can test adhesion by trying to scrape off and peel off.

The manufacturer has added testing for adhesion into their final instructions. Its one of those things where .025% of jobs can still be expensive to fix. Take a power troweled floor where a silicate based agent was used at pour and was unknown to homeowner, etc.

We actually have that here -- although we know it -- and if I work hard enough I can get the material to fail over the floor directly, but not over an area that was rinsed with metal blast first....

We often recommend a simple 'pull test' for adhesion for coatings.

Apply a small amount of the coating to the floor in a corner or out of the way area. Prep and apply as you intend to do for the main area. Wait for it to cure per the manufacturer's recommendations. Cut an 'X' across the coating. Apply a good piece of duct tape like Gorilla Tape and give it a yank. If the coating comes up, then adhesion most likely will be an issue. A properly adhered floor wont pull up using this test.

This works very well as well. This product will almost always pass this test (similar to cross hatch) but it should have even more aggressive adhesion in most situations -- pull test wont detect the 'issue' but better adhesion can be obtained.

I'm in the same boat as OP. What if there is cure and seal on floor??

If there is a cure/seal, it must be treated normally by grinding. Tool rental places are sources as well as renting a Diamabrush from Home Depot.

The 'water drop absorption' test is a good method to check for permeability and adhesion after you have treated the floor. The test is referenced numerous times on the Forum, if you can't locate it, email us to [email protected] and we will send instructions.

Of course, if you don't want to deal with all of that, just tile over it with any of the wide array of garage floor tiles or something like our solid PVC tiles, SupraTile.

Grind it and use 3 coats instead of two

Hey All:

This seemed like an appropriate thread to post this. I have updated the Rust Bullet Page based on the PMs, and posts about what people thought was confusing.

Added a way to purchase anti skid and flake, added flake colors, and make the clear and gray more obvious as to what is what.

Q. What else would you like to see on that page.

One of my concerns is making the page to long, but things like crack filler and joint filler, I could put in the main price list or even a separate tab. What questions do you need answered that are not answered now.
