Is this amount of rust on the coil end plate normal? This is after 3 seasons of primarily A/C use. The unit works great, no other issues. I only noticed because I had it apart for cleaning. 2021-11-23 13.01.15.jpg

In comparison to my 24kbtu fuji i installed 5 summers ago, and my 18kbtu pioneer i installed 4 summers ago, yours looks Horrible. i have zero corrosion on both mine. Sure the copper isnt shiny anymore but thats it. That looks like a defect in materials UNLESS you live on or near salt water. Then all bets are off. Good luck.

Yeah I was afraid of that. Oddly it still performs great so it must not take much of a leak to start the corrosion process. I guess the next step is to see what, if any warranty applies.

What’s that other thing at the top of the picture that’s also corroded?

Sure you don’t have something dripping on the unit perpetually?

That's the bracket that attaches the coil to the plastic housing. This is in a living area so no corrosives coming from the environment that I can think of. The summer months are humid and it does produce a lot of condensate so I suspect the coil is continually wet. Seems like that would be a very common situation though.

I'd guess it was **** plating on the steel with condensation sitting on it.
I've seen lots of older A coils in split systems do that that weren't leaking.

I'll be thrilled if it's just crappy plating. Was hoping for an explanation other than a leak.

I would call Mitsu’s tech dept. Demand a case number so it is documented that there is a problem. That can give you some leverage on extending the warranty.
