Any info or experiences using products that contain paradichlorobenzene as a VCI rust preventative? I've been doing some research into tool rust prevention and haven't found anything definitive regarding it's effectiveness as such. Some "camphor" blocks are really made of paradichlorobenzene as are some mothballs/bars. If I can't find information, I'll probably pull the trigger and order some Zerust products for my tool chests.....

It must be good, it's one of the biggest words I've ever seen.

You just made me spit on my keyboard! Thanks!

Mothballs around here are mostly paradichlorobenzene, since naphthalene being more toxic is kind of out of favor. I've never seen camphor mothballs for sale (you can get camphor blocks, but not in stores around here).

I've heard from people that moth balls can be used in toolboxes (that would be as a VCI). I've read that naphthalene can corrode metal, so you may be onto something.

One product I'm familiar with is Cortec 'Bullfrog' VCI rust blockers. I'm not sure what their active ingredients are but you can look around their website to see if you can find it. http://www.cortecvci.com/index2.php

You can buy their products here: http://www.theruststore.com/VCI-C12.aspx Their emitter cups are a good choice for toolboxes.

I can second what Stuart says about the Cortec products. I was involved in crating and shipping equipment around the world, as well as traveling ahead of the shipment to receive it and set it up. It was all wrapped in the blue vci plastic as well as having the emitter cups in the electrical cabinets. The only time I opened a crate to find damage was when we failed to drain properly a water cooling tower and had a few gallons of water packaged in the crate. So study their site and give them a call.
