So I just moved to a new home and I'm worried about tool rust. The garage is connected to house and has heat. I'm mostly worried about condensation in the winter. Would desiccant in the tool box be enough? Will having the heat kick on and off cause issues along with opening closing garage door?

You don't mention where you are located, but summer is far more of an issue in most cases than winter.
In winter in all but the SE, the humidity is low and the temp low. No rust.
Fast forward to spring and summer where there are
wide temp swings and a/c inside and hot and humid outside and thus you have condensation. Condenstaion loves heat/cold friction and humidity. No humidity, then it's just hot vs. a/c . Tools far less likely to see corrosion.
salt air and oceans add another factor too.
It's far from black and white.
And BTW, dessicant always helps. But not if 95% humidity persists.

Depends on the quality of the chrome. *Some* of my Craftsman stuff is rusting after just a year in the garage. Most is not, telling me it's a plating issue with those few select tools.

I have a few of the small desicant bags that are shipped with things in my socket drawer. I wipe things down with wd after I use them, and every once in a while take a day and wipe down all my tools. Never had a problem with rust. I've seen quite a few 95% humidity days lately.

If my chrome tools contact something like brake fluid, I wash them off, and wipe down with an oily rag. Otherwise, just clean up with the oily rag.
Every few years, a touchup with turtlewax chrome polish.
Chrome isn't the issue with rust. Everything else is.
