I want to coat the tiles in front of my fireplace with a hard, durable, textured surface and bed liner came to mind. Has anyone done this or can anyone think of a reason as to why this wouldn't work?

Sorry... No help on a solution, but I'm pretty sure Rust-Oleum put a warning on their site because it's not supposed to be exposed to heat sources. I'd imagine some accidental embers laying on the liner would be bad.

"No trucked bed coating should be used on surfaces that come directly in contact with heat or high temperatures such as mufflers, exhaust components and other high heat surfaces."

Good luck, hopefully you find a capable coating to meat your needs.

If the OP is planning on using bed liner on the fireplace decorative tiles he may want to consider long term resale value of that home. I cannot believe many buyers would consider that coating a positive improvement in a home.
