Hi all,

I have the Home Depot Rustoleum Epoxy which is water based. After reading the instructions it says to use one coat in a 4x4 area and spread the flakes.

Many of you have mentioned about using 2 coats but with other brands. How long should I wait before applying the second coat?

Thanks!

The Rustoleum instruction manual sheds no light on the subject. This is just an educated guess here, but I would re-coat from about 12-24 hours after the first coat has been applied. Allow it to become tack free to the touch before starting. You don't want it sticky, but if the coating is allowed to cure for too long, it may resist the re-coat and need to be sanded first.

I called Rustoleum (yes, it's a slow day, and since I've used this stuff before, I wanted to make sure myself!) and they said for the base colored epoxy after 12 hours and up to 48 hours. For the clear coats after 16 hours up to 72 hours. I was close, that's why I usually stick to 12-24 hours for any re-coat so they can still chemically bond. Good luck!

No problem, I had the time. You may have been lulled to sleep and forgotten the question by the incrediable MUZAK :wtf:that played while I waited for a rep to pick up the call. :)
