Thought I would post since I haven’t found much information on using only the clear epoxy coating.

I got the inspiration to do a clear coating from my old YMCA. They had smooth bare concrete floors that to me looked pretty cool and industrial. I also chose this instead of the traditional gray/flakes kit since its a 2 parts solids, solvent based epoxy, which I believe is what more higher end epoxies are. I bought 5 kits to cover slightly less than 600 square feet for about $450 from Zoro.

First we moved all the stuff out of the garage. Then we vaccumed/blowered some of the debri.

We then used Oil Eater to clean and degrease the floor.

Initially I was going to rent a diamond grinder but decided to do an acid etch instead given time constraints and $$$. I used rustoleum acid etch and cleaner that comes in a gallon, took two gallons to do the whole floor. Here’s the floor after etching and drying.

The next day we mixed the first kit and started laying it down per the instructions.

Took three kits to do the first coat and we then did a second coat about 7 hours later with the remaining two kits. I believe the second coat really made the finish better since we had missed some spots. This stuff being clear makes knowing what you have covered somewhat difficult.

Here’s how the floors currently looks, drying/curing. We hope to move everything back in later today.

I’d be glad to answer any questions!

Looks great! Would be curious how it holds up once you start using it.

I’ll try to post an update after a couple of months. Already have to replace some tie rod ends in a couple of weeks so we’ll see how it holds up to jack stands.

So an update after a couple weeks.

The coat seems to be holding strong. With no issues to report on functionality and/or bonding issues.

The only two issues that have made themselves know are rather cosmetic.

First off, seems like the clear does a good job at showing scratches. When you touch them you can tell it’s not a gouge more so a scuff.

The second one could have been expected. The coat is not intended for surfaces that are exposed to the sun. We did noticed this weird foaming look around the door. There is a significant gap between the door and the slab so I’m assuming this is a reaction to sunlight.

Other than that, it is working out nice and best of all, the bare concrete floor is not as dusty anymore, plus don’t have to worry about oil spills.

Have you walked on it when it was wet? Looks like it may be slick when wet, I like the look though.

It was raining today and I stepped on the wet grass, came back in to the garage and didn’t even noticed until I did a “slip test” bit running my shoe on the floor while standing still. Honestly you can feel some friction from the anti slip material you mix with the kit.
