Ok Gang, I decided on the Rustoleum pro stuff in Silver gray. I power washed and then Acid Etched the floor, then power washed twice to rinse. I let it sit for 3 days with the doors open during the day and the dehumidifier on all 3nights.

I called Rustoleum and asked them their opinion on coverage and they suggested that with my Broom finished floor I would probably need 2 kits and then some maybe. Each kit states it will cover 300-400 square feet.
(I have 768)

So we decide the best thing to do is mix all 3 kits at the same time so I don't run out and have to mix up the third kit at the last minute and wait for pot time activation. So I mix 3 kits up and used 2 (My buddy next door helped)
18" 3/8" nap rollers. I had virtually no cutting in and we had the whole garage done in under an hour!

The only problem was I only used less than half the $h!t I mixed up. So I wasted a $hit pile of material and it definitely needed another coat. I was so pissed and disappointed I wanted to spit.

The next morning I called rustoleum and told them what had occurred and Get this... She says We are sorry you had a bad experience, hold on a minute. She comes back on the phone and tells me to go buy 2 more kits and send them the receipt and they will reimburse me! I didn't know whether to $hit or wind my watch! So today I went down to the hardware store and got 2 more kits and tonight we slathered it on as thick as we could using 1/2" rollers this time. They said they would send me the material if I preferred but there is a 16 to 72 hour window when you can apply a second coat and I did not want to miss that as I would have to sand the first coat so the second would adhere.

Initially I wasn't going to use the flakes, but tonight I decided to. I will post pictures tomorrow night when I get home.

Rustoleum stood behind their product and they truly are a customer first oriented company.

Cost so Far: 4 18" rollers@ 15.00 =60.00
3 Rustoleum kits@ 80.00 =240.00 (I'm not including the other 2)
Xylol 1 quart = 4.00
1 tub big enough to mix in 16.00
2 throw away brushes 5.00
Total 325.00

Now the guy that came and gave me a price on some admittedly better epoxy, which was like 1/8 to 3/16ths thick told me $7000.00.

Later on when I am ready I can get Race deck or some other good tile and spend about $2100.00 to do the whole garage. I still saved 4 grand and have a good base coat under the racedeck if I ever spill anything.

The stuff was a bit of a PIA to use as it was on the shelf for a while. I should have had the paint guy throw it in the shaker before I brought it home. I had him do it tonight and it was much easier to transfer this time and mix up. The first time (Monday night) the stuff was separated so bad I could not get it out of the can. It was like peanut butter!.

I used a big mixer in a cordless drill and that worked well.

So that's it. I will post pix tomorrow. One other thing, Wear a real carbon respirator or you will be higher than a SCIENCE LAB RAT when you are done!!!!

I can attest to that. I had a issue with very small "blistering" about 3 weeks after putting down the Rustoleum. I called them and told them the problem. They had me send in some samples of the blisters and they then had their labs test them to determine the cause. Came back it was moisture. So, they gave me the option of a FULL refund (about $700) or replacing the product, although they did say if I re do the floor, there was a good chance the blistering would occur again. Well, since the blisters were so small, I decided to have them send me replacement product (I did not even have to pay the shipping!) and re do the floor. Glad I did because the blistering problem did not return. I am now thinking that even though I waited 4 months before using the epoxy, the concrete still needed more time to cure.

Bottom line is that I was COMPLETLY blown away when they offered the refund or replacement even though the problem was caused by moisture.

Where did you get the Rust Pro at?

Home Depot is where I bought mine at. It was nice being able to buy it locally as opposed to having to order it. That way, if I came up short on how much I needed, I did not have to wait for it to be delivered and miss the cure/recoat time....

I will say one more thing about the Rustoelum. Contrary to what Rustoleum says, use 2 coats. While 1 coat probably will hold up alright, 1 coat just does not look all that great. When the first coat dries, it looks like a primer. The second coat has ALOT more color and shine to it, plus you have that much more protection.......

That was very nice of Rustoleum.
Do their instructions recommend mixing more than one unit at a time? I have not used this brand and am curious. I searched their website but could not find a PDF of the instructions, only the MSDS(material data saftey sheets). The products I have used recommend mixing only one unit at a time.

From what I have seen/been told, you mix it all together in case there is a slight color difference between the kits you buy. That way, it is definitely all one color.

I used about 6 kits (3 per coat), so I mixed all the Base material together (in a 5 gal. bucket bought at Home Depot) so that there would be no variation in color/shade. The instructions do not mention this (I picked this tip up from this forum), although they should.

Their instructions didnt but the guy in tech support I talked to did. He mentioned making sure I had the same batch or to mix it all together to avoid color differences. The bottom of the box has a code on it for each batch.

They do recommend mixing more than one but it does change the "POT" time and the length of usable time

I was thinking about doing a 12-16" perimeter stripe around the floor and between the 2 bays. I don't know what kind of paint to use that will adhere to the epoxy. I called the rustoleum tech line and they didnt know. They said to check with the paint store. I would think that they would recommend one of their other products, no?

The floor looks fantastic. Is there clear coat on your floor? Have you considered using vinyl (applied before clear coat) instead of paint for the stripes?

Cheers!

No I haven't. It would probably be hard to find and expensive if I did, No?

Check out this thread. In particular Waldrum's (sp?) comments. He has used vinyl on his and IMHO it looks great. I am considering doing it in my garage.

Cheers!

I remember that thread now Jim. Yeah that looks possible. Does anyone know if rustoleum makes a clear coat for over their epoxy> Is theydo I wonder if I am past the waiting period for applying a top coat. They told me I had to do my second coat with in 72 hours or I would have to scuff up the floor before applying another coat.
