hey guys,
first off thanks for all the threads and tutorials. i have finally decided to go with a flooring for my new house (garage) and chose based of all your inputs. anyway i decided to go with the professional series Rustoleum and today i received the clear coat in the mail.

My first question to anyone who has used the clear coat. I got the rustoleum clear coat today in the mail and the activator can feels almost empty. is this because not much is needed to activate part b? or is this an issue that i need to return for a full can?

next question. someone (mefarri) posted a while back about this stuff and he recommended a SHARKGRIP additive for the clear coat. Do any of you know if he added that to the additive that comes with the kit? or did he not use the additive that the kit came with for a specific reason (is it too course or uncomfortable to walk on? bad experiences with the kit non slip additive material).

other than those questions, i am in the prep state and cant wait to start.

1) For the clearcoat, neither can is supposed to be full. The color kit mixes to two full gallons of material. The clearcoat kit mixes to one full gallon of material. I got a 1 gal capacity, 18" roller pan from Lowes and mixed in that for the clear. I was using 18" rollers.

2) I used approx 1/2 of the supplied grit material. The grit has a tendency to sink to the bottom of the clearcoat before you're able to put it onto the floor. I don't really know how to avoid that... perhaps mix smaller amounts in and do it more often? I have spots on my floor with lots of grit and spots with almost none. I think 1/2 of the grit package was fine for my floor. The finish you get with the supplied grit product is very similar to the "sandpaper" finish they put on walls in the 60's. It will tear a paper towel if you scrub on it. I have no experience with other types/brands of grit.

Be advised, in my experience, the color kits cover 250 sqft per gallon (so 500 sqft per 2 gallon kit) and the clearcoat covers 500 sqft per gallon, when applied to coated concrete. I can't speak for if you put the clear on bare concrete. My garage is 650 sqft and I tried clearcoating with a single 1-gallon kit. It's definitely thin in some spots.

Thanks for the fast response. I only have a 400 sqft garage and I picked up two color kits. I should be good based on all the other experiences i have read about.

I wonder if the sharkgrip will produce the same grit as the additive from the kit. not really sure if i like the fact that the additive will rip a paper towel if i try to clean a spill. Then again i do not want to fall on my a** on the wet floor either.
