rustoleum re-coat

i just put down the first coat of rustoleum prof floor epoxy in 50-60 degree weather and 7 hours later it's already tack-free.
i know the instructions tell me to wait approx 48-72 hours before recoating, but since it seems already dry, can i go ahead and recoat within 24 hours?

I wouldn't think it would be a big problem. I did the pro version of that product - it says to recoat in 24 - 48 hours if I remember right. I waited 24 hours between the two color coats and another 24 hours to do the clear coat. Call the 800 number on the box just to be on the safe side.

You said the temp was 50-60 but do you know the floor temp? I'm considering putting the pro now in NJ and can heat the garage to 75 and floor to 53.

Do you know the temp near the door(s).

tommya, i think the floors are warmer since it's been fairly warm here until the past few days. i don't know the floor temp, sorry...

it says to recoat in 24 - 48 hours if I remember right.

That is @ 70 degrees. At 50 degrees it says to wait the 72-96 hours.

The cooler it is the longer it takes epoxy to cure. The danger of re-applying another coat is that if the first coat of the product is not sufficiently cured, it could "wrinkle" when the next coat is applied. Epoxies form a chemical bond and release heat during cure, so this could cause the uncured coating to dissolve during the bonding and loose adhesion to the substrate, looking like it has "wrinkled". If you are in a time crunch, perform a test with a small amount of material in an indescriminate area to determine if the coating is ready for a re-coat.
