Rusty Jack Identification

I ran across a jack at the Flea Market that looks like it has been there for a while and was hoping someone could ID it for me. It's pretty rusty and the handle doesn't move. It has a $25 tag on it and that's probably negotiable. Here are some pics I grabbed of it the other day with my phone...hence the poor quality. I'm hoping some of our jack aficionados will recognize the design. I can grab more pics this weekend if it would help.

Possibly a U.S. manufactured Blackhawk SJ-1 or SJ-2. I don't care for the rust that's set in, but for 25 bucks, I say grab it while you can.

Definitely a SJ-1 or 2, But i would check the Ram for Pitting etc. That bad boy looks Rusterific and i would be concerned about the condition of the Internals, Pull the Saddle out and flip it over and check the Ram condition. If there was still oil inside the jack it will probably be OK, IF it was DRY. I would be concerned....

Yeah it's rusterific but this is FL so everything is. The condition of the internals is what concerns me the most. If they're still good I'd consider it worth rehabbing as derusting and paiting doesn't both me. If they're rusty or pitted it's not worth it to me. I'll try to check it out this weekend.

I find it humerous that this jack is a 1.25 to 1.5 tons compared to some "2 ton" jacks today.

Thanks,
David

I went and checked the jack out again yesterday and decided to leave it there. The bottom was more rusted than the top and there was no way I could check the condition of the ram. The rust on the bottom had progressed in some spots to the point where it appeared to be sheets and would fall off if you touched it. Just not worth the risk.

Sometimes its not worth the trouble, Those jacks have a Crazy Tank nut pattern and the Original tool is Very.. veryy. very hard to find and the 1 guy i know that does have one says it never works and it breaks the teeth off nut instead of loosening it. It standard procedure to grab the pipe wrench, It leaves a impression but its hidden and required to service the jack.

If you come across another SJ1 or 2, keep this one in mind, as it might be good for some parts.

There certainly must be a bit of a market developing for older obsolete hard component jack parts. I've been looking around for a few items, and what I keep hearing over and over again from some rebuild shops is that the older jacks they had set aside for parts were sent off to the junk pile in the last couple of years because of the high scrap metal prices. :(

I've been keeping an eye out on Craigslist and at the Flea Markets but this is the only older US made jack I've seen. Hence my interest in it. I wish it was in better condition though cause it is a big jack.
