Rusty Snap On

Bought a pair of SO needle nose pliers off the SO truck recently ....had what looked like rust on them...he said that was normal....so I took them...anyone else experience this?

For the most part the pliers are bare steel. If it didn't have it new they'd get a light patina rust pretty quickly, doesn't effect use or function at all. If it bothers you stick with plated pliers.

Yup mine started flash rusting the minute I touched them. But they work fine.

Yep, normal. All mine have a light rust on them too.

Give them a coat of light oil. Baby oil works well and doesn't get gummy like 3 in 1 oil.

Mine are too greasy to rust lol. I have seen it on them, but I just clean them with wd-40 and seems to keep it at bay. And anytime I get grease on them I wipe it on the steel then wipe off the excess.

I clean the rust of with a mild acid on a cloth, then coat with oil.

Pliers come supplied from Snap On in a plastic pack with a light costing of protective oil, so they should reach the dealer in good shape!

After that, it's down to the dealer! If he can't be bothered to wipe down his stock after handling, they will rust!

Personally, I wouldn't pay Snap On money for tools with rust!

My $40 1 1/4" SO impact socket is full of rust but my $8 1 1/2" impact socket from Farm and Fleet is perfect and they sit right next to each other in my work tool box.
