Wife and I are moving to our retirement home and we are lucky enough to have an RV garage. The garage needs insulating and interior sheathing. What would be a good option for ceiling material. Was thinking something light weight such as vinyl siding or vinyl soffit material. What have you guys used and how did you install it on the ceiling sixteen feet overhead?

Depends on what your ordinance codes are as to the type of material for your ceiling. Most require drywall that I know of. Are you going to use insulation bats or blown insulation? That will add some weight to what ever you put on for your ceiling material. If you go with bats you can use the backing and staple to your joists

16ft up you will need tall ladders or scaffolding. You can rent scaffolding.

Don't forget the 2x4 suspended ceiling idea.

All kinds of style and material options.

Mine is just drywall, tape and insulated like your house would be. I do use a podium ladder for ceiling work. I'd recommend scaffolding for installation for sure.

I have white metal siding, same as NUTTSGT suggested. 2x4 run perpendicular to the trusses, and the siding is screwed to that. So my ribs run parallel to the trusses.

Me too. I went with it, because it looks good and no maintenance, and it was up and done. No painting, no taping etc.

So long as it is White, almost anything should be fine if just parking.

My RV spot doubles as a Wash Bay so I by default opted for the White Sheet Metal interior.

Wow, that is nice. Do I see a slot floor drain? Do you wash daily or monthly? Does washing inside cause problems? It sort of looks like the RV is in a separate stall.

Very nice.

Yeah it is. That is way nice. Unfortunately I have to wash mine outside before backing it into its storage bay.:(

Pat are you listening? Feel sorry for me yet?:lol_hitti

Thank you!

Yep that is a 48 foot Trench Drain perpendicular to the Door (see drawing below).

Haven't had any problems washing vehicles inside in the 30+ years I have been doing it. Every shop I have been in I had a Wash bay. In my Upper and Lower Garages I have wash bays that double as parking stalls. I mostly use the Lower Garage since it has poured walls, not sheet rock like the upper Garage.

This is the first shop I have had with a 48 foot drain however. So when it came time to wash either the Race Car Transporter at 81 feet OAL or the Motorhome I had to pull them outside. The sun in the eyes and the sun baking the water dry was a bigger pain than wet walls. One of the best things I did with the latest design (final design).

The RV sits in the "Cold Storage Area"...only heated to 55° in the winter.

I only was my vehicles when they get dirty. I use to wash everything daily/weekly when I was a younger man and I could go 2-3 days without sleep...LOL...

i'm still surprised that most municipalities dont require a 1 hr rating on an attached garage.

I made mine a 1hr enclosure when I moved in.

I struggle with compassion Mike. If you wait by your door for the next week or so sympathy flowers may or may not show up...LOL...Or I can simply punch a hole in your "Tough **** Card"...LOL...

Now if you were not so cheap and just paid the fuel I would allow you to use my Wash Bay whenever you want...the hot water too.

I wonder if the 2 of us could do a conference call on a Victims Hotline???

I think that’s a good idea Pat. I have a feeling we think a lot alike. My wife calls it “quirky”. [emoji23]
