Ryobi 18v Battery Problem

I have a infrequently used battery unknown age that worked, but won't charge (or hold one) even thought the charger states it is fully charged.

I've had some in the past, that I had to a low amp "jump start" because they were completely dead, but in that case the charger flagged the error.

Ideas?

The cells have probably failed and developed internal shorts. When they charger puts a voltage across it, there's no drop, so it thinks it's seeing a full battery.

Whenever an old Ryobi 18V batteries didn’t charge correctly on a particular Ryobi charger, I’ve had some success switching to a different version 18V Ryobi charger. Not sure why but it has worked a few times before deciding to dump the battery in the recycle bin.

Nothing lasts forever...

You could sometimes get the old nicad batteries to wake up for a while longer with voltage to the terminals, but that's not safe with lithium batteries.

As stated, try another charger. But it's probably time to say goodbye. Some good sales are coming up or already in stores.

I did move it to another charger with the same results

It might’ve been a older battery that I picked up in the state auction and had to jumpstart several years ago

I was just happy as I thought that my caulking gun quit and I’ve only used it a couple of times

Thanks for the replies everyone I’ll probably just recycle it
