Ryobi 18V cordless impact

Looking to get an impact, but no air at this time.

But, I was in home depot yesterday and was looking at this impact:

I already have a pretty complete set of ryobi 18V tools, and I'm pretty happy with them.

Does anyone have this impact? How does it work with the Nicad batteries? Or is it really only good with the lithiums? Because the lithium is a $200+ upgrade...

I have that exact model. It works great and with even the smallest Litium-ion 18v lasts a very long time. The Lithium 18v and Nicad 18v batteries are interchangable so you can use the new lithium battery on the older tools and vice versa.Some of the new Ryobi chargers will charge either type of battery.I like the Ryobi Plus One concept because they have such a huge range of tools and they are reaspnably priced.

It's a clone to the Craftsman C3 impact. Very decent for the price and if you already have a set of Ryobi batteries, then this is a no-brainer. Not the most powerful, but it's very reasonable for other things.

I have alot of ryobi stuff and was wondering about this imact as well. I have read that ryobi is the maker for the craftsman c3 version of this. It would be nice if someone who has one could do a test to see how far torqued down lug nuts need to be for this impact to be at its limit.

Have one and found it to be usefull for a lot of driver stuff that the drill would do. But as an impact not strong enough. I have IR 120 vac impact that will truly work as an impact. Electric is easier to find at some job sites than air.

I've got that unit, with the li-ion batterys, (and nicads floating around too somewhere) and while its nice, I'm really not too thrilled with it. For $99 I can't complain, I think I was expecting too much out of it.

How well does it remove lug nuts? That is usually the purpose most people buy these for isnt it?

I have that exact impact and it kicks ****! It will break lug nuts loose that my air impact won't. (cambell/hausfield at 125PSI,30 gal craftsman comp) Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Have you noticed any difference with the Lithiums vs the Nicads? Also do you have the "extended" lithiums?

Ive used it on lugs torqued to 80 ftlb and it removes it pretty quick. For a passenger car it works well

Have that one, great value, especially if you already have One+ tools.

Lug nuts are hit and miss for me, mostly dependent on battery charge. Hot off the charger? Spins them right off. Mine might have done a few too many tire rotations, too, doesn't seem to have the kick it did when new.

I don't have time to read all the other comments right now but I have had the older blue Ryobi 18 volt impact driver for several years. The DeWalt 18 volt impact for about the same amount of time. As bad as as I hate to admit it, the Ryobi has always seemed to have just as much power, run smother and maybe even weigh a little less than the DeWalt. Of all the Ryobi 18 volt tools that I own the impact driver is the best of the lot. That said I do not own the new green colored tool but would not hesitate to buy one if my older one bit the dust.

From what i was told, the Lithium's will have the longer battery life, but the Nicad's will have a little more torque output form the tool.

I picked up one this past weekend. I had a brake spring anchor that I had to remove and after much frustration I went to home depot and took the plunge. While it couldn't remove the nut it DID break it loose enough for me to crank it off with an 18" breaker bar and my foot. It also made the rest of the job a lot easier especially for taking the wheels off and on. I'm happy!
